Over 200 Annapolis Area Christian School Children Volunteer at Bello Machre
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MARYLAND: Over 200 Annapolis Area Christian School children, parents, and teachers volunteered their time Thursday, April 21, 2011 as part of their annual spring yard clean-up for Bello Machre. 17 groups of middle school children spent the day raking leaves and mulching flowerbeds at 20 different Bello Machre homes located throughout Anne Arundel County. The Annapolis Areas Christian School continues to be the largest volunteer group in the history of Bello Machre. Dr. Robert Ireland, Bello Machre’s President and Chief Executive Officer, commented “We are very excited the spring yard clean up has become an annual tradition at Bello Machre. We are lucky to have such a great group of young adults give back in such a big way,”
Paul Brophy, the teacher who organizes this annual project comments on the impact that this special day has on the students, “Our students really get to put what they are learning into practice by doing hands-on service and not just hearing about the need to serve. It is a way for them to live out their faith. It also allows them to have an impact on the community they live in. The students and parents really enjoy the time we get at the homes. They feel the experience is valuable for us and for the homes we serve. We get the internal benefits and Bello Machre gets the visible benefits.”
