In advance of our 35th Annual Every Step Counts Walk & Bike Ride, President and CEO Dr. Robert Ireland sat down with CBS Baltimore to discuss how our annual fundraiser supports a lifetime of loving care and opportunity for people with developmental disabilities in Maryland.
A Day of Joy, Inclusion, and Impact
Every Step Counts is Bello Machre’s annual fundraiser supporting our mission of providing a lifetime of loving care and opportunity to people with developmental disabilities. Every dollar raised helps support individuals and families across Maryland.
This year’s 35th anniversary promises to be our most impactful yet. Gathering community members in two locations, including Anne Arundel Community College and Dutterer Family Park in Carroll County, the event is on track to raise well over $200,000 to directly fund our vital community programs.
Every Step Counts is a vibrant, joyful celebration for the entire family. Participants can look forward to a morning packed with family entertainment, featuring face painting, live music, and dancing. Whether you walk, ride, or simply join to cheer on the participants, every single step counts toward reinforcing community belonging for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Community-Based Group Homes and Community Development Services
The funds raised through Every Step Counts directly fuel the programs that make a daily difference in the lives of people with developmental disabilities. Bello Machre proudly operates 50 residential properties throughout Maryland that we call our “Forever Homes.” Located in neighborhoods in Anne Arundel and Carroll Counties, these beautiful houses are fully equipped so that people can live comfortable, full, active, and dignified lives within the community for their entire lifetime.
In addition to residential services, our community services focus on personalized community-based exploration, skill-building, and employment services. By partnering with local businesses, we help adults with developmental disabilities secure meaningful work, master new skills, and thrive independently on their own terms.
How to Get Involved
Inclusion is a community-wide effort, and you don’t have to be directly connected to a Bello Machre family to make a difference! There are multiple ways to show your support for this milestone event.
