TBI Services in Maryland: Support for Every Stage of Life

Bello Machre provides children & teens, adults, and seniors with traumatic brain injury (TBI) with access to compassionate support, specialized programs, and essential services needed for lifelong care. We focus not on the individual’s diagnosis, but on their goals and dreams. Every person living with TBI is different, and our customized services are designed to align with individual strengths, challenges, and goals. Whether the path forward includes relearning skills, pursuing a career, achieving greater independence, or living in a residential group home, Bello Machre offers support every step of the way.

Group Homes for People with Traumatic Brain Injury

Bello Machre’s Residential Services create safe, welcoming group homes for adults with TBI and other intellectual and developmental disabilities, ages 21 and older. Residents live in small households of three to four people, enjoying a sense of community while receiving live-in caregiver support. Our internal Nursing Department provides added support to ensure consistent, person-centered care.

Every home emphasizes independence, fun, and meaningful engagement. Residents share meals, pursue hobbies, and participate in community activities, while DSP caregivers provide guidance and encouragement. Families can trust that their loved ones are thriving in a home built on community, connection, and personal growth.

residential Homes and community Development Services

Residential group homes for adults with traumatic brain injury (TBI) in Maryland provide specialized living arrangements, typically for those age 21 and over, focused on creating a safe, supportive environment in a comfortable, home-like setting.

At Bello Machre, group home options for adults with TBI are available through our Residential Services, which offer living opportunities in small communities of four people where residents can enjoy a sense of community while receiving live-in caregiver support. Residents in our group homes benefit from a range of creative and practical activities designed to match their needs, goals, and abilities, designed to support independence while improving  quality of living.

Organizations that support people with traumatic brain injury and other developmental disabilities typically offer a wide range of programs designed to improve skills related to daily living and independence.

At Bello Machre, our programs provide targeted opportunities to build a variety of skills that help increase self-confidence and improve quality of life. Behavioral support services are also available within our homes as needed, ensuring individuals receive personalized support based on their unique needs. These services, along with skill-building programs, include:

  • Daily Living Skills: Personal hygiene, grooming, dressing correctly for work, weather and activities, cooking and meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, and establishing routines.
  • Financial Skills: Understanding how to budget, handle money, make purchases, plan for expenses, save and earn money.
  • Social Skills: Expressing needs, creating social boundaries, building friendships, and navigating community, social, and work settings.
  • Work Skills: Interviewing and applying for a job, job expectations and workplace behavior, time management, following instructions, working with a team, and safely using public transportation.

At Bello Machre, creating a safe, supportive environment for those with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other developmental disabilities who live in our residential group homes is a top priority. We currently operate 50-handicap accessible homes designed to accommodate the residents’ needs, including ramps, wider doorways, and other interior design modifications that facilitate mobility and independence.

For adults living in our residential group homes, our licensed nursing professionals provide proactive medical support, training, and guidance to our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). Each home is managed by a DSP (also referred to as a Family Living Director or FLD) who lives in a separate apartment within the home and provides daily, hands-on care for every resident.

Residents are taken to doctor appointments by staff, with family members welcome to join in taking loved ones to medical appointments, if they choose. By working closely with families, our nursing team enhances timeliness of care, strengthens continuity across programs, and plays a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and independence of all group home residents.

Day programs for those with traumatic brain injury (TBI) commonly focus on activities that build daily living skills, promote connection, improve socialization, and foster a sense of community.

At Bello Machre, our community development services offer day programs that include a mix of recreational, educational, and social activities tailored to participants’ strengths and interests. Examples include:

  • Physical Fitness & Wellness: Bowling, movement classes, and recreational sports that promote health and well-being.
  • Food Industry Exploration: Cooking sessions, kitchen safety, and meal prep activities that teach practical skills and confidence.
  • Retail & Customer Service: Learning real-world interaction and money-handling through guided volunteer or practice opportunities.
  • Creative Hobbies & Arts: Painting, music, crafts, and other outlets for self-expression and creativity.
  • Entrepreneurship & Small Business Skills: Exploring how ideas turn into products and services, encouraging independence and innovation.
  • Nature & Animal Care: Outdoor adventures, park walks, and opportunities to care for animals and gardens.

employment support

Bello Machre’s employment services for traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivors and adults with other developmental disabilities focus on the individual. We take a person-centered approach to uncovering the best career path that begins with understanding each individual’s unique interests, goals, and abilities.

Through the creation of a targeted job development plan, we uncover where a person would like to work or what hobbies they enjoy, then complete a skills assessment to determine what skills they already have that can help them find the job they want and what skills we can help them learn to reach their job goal.

Yes, adults with traumatic brain injury (TBI) can receive coaching and career support. This is typically done through dedicated employment services. These services provide personalized career support, including goal matching, skills assessment, aptitude analysis, interview coaching, job training, job transportation support, and ongoing help with job retention.

At Bello Machre, we provide dedicated community-based employment services that focus on individual interests, talents, and job aspirations. Our services, which include job discovery, vocation training, job placement, and transportation, help those with TBI and other developmental disabilities achieve meaningful employment and cultivate careers that positively impact quality of life and allow for them to thrive within their community.
