Meet Jared!
Jared is a member of Bello Machre’s Meaningful Day Services in Carroll County, where he works with Bello Machre’s Employment Specialist, Peggy Graves. Peggy helps Jared with job coaching, job development, on-site training, and more!
Through these services, Jared was able to find meaningful employment in the community at Carroll Lutheran Village where he works at the café and in the dish room.
“Some of his responsibilities include setting up and preparing the different food stations, serving the residents food, and making the residents sandwiches,” explains Peggy. “It’s a role that teaches him an abundance of new responsibilities and skills.”
Not only do Peggy and Jared work on building skills for his current job, but they also work to explore his dream career.
Jared’s dream career: working in video production
Jared couldn’t be happier with his job at the Carroll Lutheran Village, but he’s always had a special calling towards video production.
At Bello Machre, our Employment Services do more than just find job placement. We stay by the side of the individuals we support throughout their employment journey, and we help them explore alternative career goals.
When Peggy learned about Jared’s dream career, she knew she could help.
Connecting Jared with the right career resources
Thanks to the support of Bello Machre Employment Specialist, Peggy, and a local connection at Carroll County’s Community Media Center, Jared formed an important relationship.
Every week the Community Media Center posts an episode for their GAME ON series – a local sports round-up and recap segment. Brandon Burkhardt, series producer for the Game ON series, learned about Jared’s goals and invited him to shadow and learn how the series is recorded, edited, and eventually published for all in the county to see.
Since being offered the opportunity, Jared has gladly participated in multiple shadow sessions with Brandon.
Building skills and gaining valuable work experience
Taking part in shadow sessions at the Community Media Center, has allowed Jared to build a variety of skills pertaining to his dream.
From using camera equipment and recording live games, to spending time in the graphics room and learning to blend music and audio – Jared has loved every second of his time shadowing with Brandon and working on the GAME ON series.

In fact, Jared even received credits on a recent episode for his help editing.
Today, Jared continues to participate in shadow sessions held at the Community Media Center, and makes meaningful progress towards his dream career.
Independent living through Personal Supports
Jared’s impressive strides towards his goals aren’t limited to his career aspirations.
A few months ago, Jared transitioned to from living with his parents to living independently with the help of Bello Machre’s Personal Supports Services and he could not be happier.
“Jared’s successful transition to independent living has given him a framework to better understand paying bills, meal planning, shopping, and household management, explains Jared’s mom, Michelle. “Even cleaning snow from his driveway presents him with opportunities for lifelong skills and independence with supports along the way.”
Direct Support Professionals Kate and Kristy help Jared develop independent living skills like lunch and dinner prep, along with healthy living habits such as routinely going to the gym.
“I like getting my own groceries and making my meals. I also have quiet time on my own.”

Bello Machre’s Meaningful Day and Personal Supports Services
At Bello Machre, we believe that every person we serve should experience a meaningful day based on their needs and preferences.
Our Meaningful Day Program focuses on enriching the lives of those we support through activities within the community that promote your loved one’s personal and/or professional growth. Under this program, we provide Community Development Services (CDS) and Employment Services.
Our Personal Supports Services provide those we support with he opportunity to access their community and attend meaningful activities of their choosing in a one-on-one environment. Individuals can work on developing independent life skills, higher educational goals, or personal projects.
