Meeting the Moment, Together
Learn how your support in these uncertain times helps provide loving homes and lifelong opportunities for our most vulnerable residents.
A Message from Dr. Robert T. Ireland, Bello Machre President and CEO
Recently, while visiting one of our homes, I met with a Bello Machre resident who doesn’t use words to communicate—but always greets me with the world’s brightest smile. Every time I see her I’m reminded how wonderful it is to know that she will always be loved as a part of our unique Bello Machre family—and that is because of all of you: our generous donors and inspiring staff.
The young woman I encountered doesn’t know about funding streams, government policies, or donor contributions. She may not understand what it takes to keep a roof over her head, but she does understand the touch of a loving hand, and what it feels like to be part of a caring family where she is truly safe and supported. She represents our most vulnerable residents—those who depend entirely on us for their well-being.
If we don’t care for these folks, who will?
We’re building for the future
As I look ahead to the next several years, I’m focused on ensuring Bello Machre not only survives but thrives. We’re currently building five new homes that will replace older homes. These spacious 4,500 square feet forever homes are not only fully wheelchair accessible but also beautiful. Most importantly, they represent our forever commitment to provide a lifetime of loving care and opportunity.
While we remain committed to our mission of providing a lifetime of loving care, opportunity, and guidance for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, I won’t sugarcoat the challenges we face. As I’m sure you know, these are uncertain times. A lot of our funding comes from the state and federal governments. We’ve weathered uncertain times before, including a recession and a pandemic—and we emerged stronger each time. We’ll navigate this period the same way—we’ll take it step by step, figuring it out together.
What gives me the greatest confidence is the incredible people walking beside us—our dedicated Direct Support Professionals, who show up every day with compassion and heart, and the generous supporters who make our mission possible.
I’m proud to report that we’re ending this fiscal year in solid financial shape—thanks to supporters like you. We’re grateful for generous donors. People like Tom and Norma Hoff, who first connected with us at our annual golf outing. Tom then visited one of our community homes and was deeply moved. Thinking of his cousin, who had lived in a state without access to proper disability services, Tom and Norma went on to make the largest multi-year financial commitment in Bello Machre’s history. We have board members like Dave Wynkoop who, along with his family, have generously included us in their estate planning.
The impact of all this support?
- The people we serve in our Residential Program live their fullest lives in beautiful, spacious, and fully accessible homes.
- Individuals thrive in Meaningful Day Services, making new friendships and enjoying everything their community has to offer.
- Our Ray of Hope program continues to open up resources and opportunities for families who once thought they were out of reach.
Bello Machre’s Employment Program is able to connect local businesses with eager job candidates, ready to make an impact in their new role.

Many of the individuals we serve and support may never know your name or fully understand your contribution. But they will feel the love, safety, and dignity that your support makes possible every single day.
Thank you for being part of the Bello Machre family. Thank you for believing in our mission.
