Finding Hope and Support at a Bello Machre Residential Group Home
After tragedy, Aunt Connie finds hope as her niece, Jennifer, thrives at Bello Machre, gaining strength, care, and a supportive home.
A Sister’s Loss, an Aunt’s Hope
“When I opened the door to visit my sister and niece on Christmas Day, I immediately knew that something was terribly wrong,” said Connie. “I discovered that my sister had passed away. My niece, alone in the house for days, was fighting for her life, suffering from dehydration and hypothermia.”
Jennifer, Connie’s niece, was born with cerebral palsy and complex developmental disabilities. She lived at home with Mom for all of her twenty-six years. They were inseparable.
When Mom suddenly passed away, Jennifer’s life was thrown into chaos. Fortunately, her Aunt Connie had heard about Bello Machre. She said, “After getting her admitted to the hospital, the first phone call I made was to Bello Machre. I felt their concern and compassion. They jumped right in and were amazing. They knew just what to do.”
Bello Machre immediately took steps to place Jennifer, helping her aunt navigate the Medicaid waiver process and offering clear communication and support throughout that period.
Life at Bello Machre Residential Group Home
After months in the hospital and rehabilitation center, Jennifer, or Jen-Jen as her family calls her, was able to move to Bello Machre’s Kensington Home. With the help of her Bello Machre support staff, she received the therapy she needed and learned to walk again.
With tears in her eyes, Aunt Connie says, “When I visit her, Jen-Jen is beaming from all the love and attention she receives at Bello Machre. I can’t believe the progress she has made at the Kensington Home. She successfully completed physical therapy and made significant progress in improving her strength and mobility. Her caregivers help her maintain that momentum with short walks around the house and other activities.”
