Meet Katherine: A Story of Resilience and Hope
Katherine’s story is one of perseverance, growth, and possibility. Born with multiple disabilities and nonverbal, she has faced challenges that would test anyone’s strength. Yet with the love and commitment of her family, Katherine continues to shine, learning, communicating in her own way, and bringing joy to everyone who knows her.
After graduating from the Maryland School for the Blind, Katherine’s family faced an uncertain future. They needed to find a new provider who could understand her unique needs and continue supporting her journey toward independence. That search led them to Bello Machre.
Through Bello Machre’s Residential Services and Community Development Services, Katherine now has a safe and nurturing home where she is celebrated for who she is. With caring staff by her side, she enjoys community outings, participates in engaging activities, and continues to grow in confidence and connection.
Her mother, Kim, shares, “Bello Machre has been a blessing for our family. Katherine has a place where she is loved and cared for, and we have peace of mind knowing she is happy and supported.”

- $50 Supports 50 people in pursuing meaningful employment opportunities that build confidence and independence.
- $100 Provides enrichment activities for 200 people in our Community Services program, fostering inclusion and connection.
- $250 Supplies essential medical items and clothing for five people in critical need.
- $500 Installs barrier-free lift systems in three homes, making daily life safer and more independent.
- $1,000 Helps convert five vans into wheelchair-accessible vehicles, giving people the freedom to connect with their communities.
- $2,500+ Provides essential funding for 25 underfunded families through the Ray of Hope Program.

Baskets of Joy
This holiday season, help Bello Machre make the holidays special for the individuals we serve by providing holiday meal baskets. Every donation ensures a joyful meal filled with warmth and gratitude for people in our community.
Each holiday meal basket should include: stuffing mix, canned goods, instant potatoes, cranberry sauce, cake mix and frosting, gravy mix, seasonings and spices, and a $25 grocery gift card for fresh items.
There Are Two Ways to Give
1. Donate a Complete Basket of Joy
Each basket should include non-perishable items for at least six servings such as stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, gravy, macaroni and cheese, canned goods (green beans, candied yams, corn, mushrooms, cream of chicken/mushroom/celery soup), broth or stock, instant mashed potatoes, dessert mix, and more — plus a $25 grocery gift card for fresh items like proteins, dairy, and produce.
No need for a traditional basket. A bin, laundry basket, or sturdy box works perfectly!
2. Donate $70
We gladly accept donations in the form of cash, check, online gift, or grocery store or Visa/Mastercard gift card (physical or electronic).
