Bello Machre Celebrates Sold-Out Premiere of “Thriving Together: The Power of Inclusion”

December 16, 2025December 16, 2025
Press Release

The sold-out premiere of Thriving Together featured the inspiring story of Spike, a Bello Machre participant whose creativity and determination highlight the power of inclusion and opportunity.

Maryland | December 3, 2025 — Bello Machre is proud to celebrate the successful premiere of Thriving Together: The Power of Inclusion, a new documentary that highlights the strength, creativity, and resilience of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Hosted at the Carroll Arts Council on Giving Tuesday, December 2, the sold-out screening brought the community together for an evening filled with inspiration and heartfelt celebration.

Produced by the Community Media Center of Carroll County, the 60-minute film follows the journeys of four individuals receiving services through local organizations. Their stories offer an honest and uplifting look at how support, opportunity, and belonging empower people to live full and meaningful lives.

Representing Bello Machre in the film is Todd, lovingly known as Spike. Spike is a talented woodworker whose creativity and determination shine throughout the documentary. The film also highlights the Employment Services he receives through Bello Machre, which have helped him build confidence, strengthen his skills, and take steps toward greater independence. With the support of his team, Spike works at Royal Farms as well as Moonlit Acres Retreat Farm, where he is an active and valued member of both communities. In addition to his work, he has expanded his artistic abilities to include laser engraving and creates intricate pieces that were featured in the evening’s silent auction. Spike’s story offers a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when people are encouraged to pursue their passions and build meaningful connections in the community.

The film also highlights individuals served by partner organizations. Randy from Target Community and Educational Services shares her love of work, travel, and teaching. Hunter from The Arc Carroll County brings his passion for sports and his dream of supporting others as a Direct Support Professional. Dave from Penn-Mar Human Services focuses on building a healthy, active life grounded in purpose and determination. Together, their stories paint a hopeful and honest picture of independence, confidence, and community.

Hannah Olexy, who receives services through Bello Machre and is a valued employee, appears in the documentary, as well. Hannah leads Crisis Intervention Trainings for local law enforcement and Peer-to-Peer Abuse and Neglect Trainings, and she also works as a Direct Support Professional at Moonlit Acres Retreat Farm. Her story offers another meaningful example of leadership, inclusion, and the impact people can have when they are supported and encouraged.

“The premiere was a powerful reminder of what inclusion truly looks like,” shares Dr. Robert T. Ireland, President and CEO of Bello Machre. “Spike’s story, along with the stories of Randy, Hunter, and Dave, show the incredible things that can happen when people are given the right support and the chance to be seen for who they really are. We are honored to be part of a project that celebrates possibility and the strength of the human spirit.”

The event opened with a red carpet welcome as the documentary’s stars arrived by limousine and were greeted with applause. The celebration continued with a silent auction featuring items inspired by the hobbies and talents of the individuals featured in the film. Guests met the filmmakers, connected with local service organizations, and learned more about the ongoing work to promote inclusion across Carroll County.

Added Dr. Ireland, “Bello Machre shares its sincere appreciation with the Community Media Center for bringing these stories to life and for their dedication to highlighting the power of inclusion. We also extend our gratitude to Target Community and Educational Services, The Arc Carroll County, and Penn-Mar Human Services for their partnership and for the incredible work they do every day to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.”

Thriving Together: The Power of Inclusion will now be submitted to a variety of film festivals before becoming publicly available. The documentary will continue to spark conversations about disability, community, and the essential role of Direct Support Professionals who help individuals live, grow, and thrive every day.

“This film is a testament to the people we support and to the staff who walk beside them,” Dr. Ireland shares. “Their stories remind us that ability is at the center of every person, and our role is to lift up that potential in every way we can.”
